Excellence 2000 (E2K) Mathematics

Horizon Primary School provides customised programmes to nurture students’ interests and develop their strengths. In collaboration with the Gifted Education Branch, MOE, the Primary 4 and Primary 5 high-ability learners in Mathematics are provided the opportunity to participate in the E2K Mathematics programme. The programme aims to foster students’ ability to become independent problem solvers by honing their process and thinking skills in Mathematics. The programme also nurtures other important 21st century competencies such as resilience and resourcefulness, critical and inventive thinking, and effective communication skills.
The E2K Mathematics programme uses an instructional methodology and materials that are highly related and relevant to students’ experiences. During E2K lessons, students are assigned challenging Mathematics problems in the form of a story or a game. Through the programme’s rich learning experiences, students discover, rationalise and communicate mathematical ideas and concepts to deepen their conceptual understanding through an inquiry approach.
